We have collected information about groups and facilities across Coventry who provide disabled access and children and young people specific exercises. Children should be properly supervised whilst doing exercise, by parents or qualified adults.

Please note:

Shortness of breath during exercise is normal, however, if during exercise, the child/young person experiences any symptoms of weakness, unsteadiness, light-headedness or dizziness, chest pain / tightness or nausea, please stop the activity immediately and contact your local health professional. However, mild soreness after exercise may be experienced after beginning any new exercise.

Groups/classes for children and young people:

  • Coventry Crusaders – a wheelchair basket ball team committed to developing wheelchair basketball skills for age 6 upwards.
  • Highly Sprung workshops  – dance and creative arts for all levels of ability.
  • Purple planet at Tiny Tims  – a soft play area in the city centre, encouraging activity and fun experiences. Use of the play facilities is free to children with special needs.
  • The grangers club  – Willenhall – A social club for children with learning difficulties aged 14 upwards, which encourages social interaction and provides various activities for the young people.
  • Active Kids – Coventry Sports Centre. The 10 week course aimed at getting children to take more exercise and eat more healthily. For more information contact 02476 252510
  • Sports Academy – Moat House – Provides integrated sports classes with qualified instructors after school, incorporating many different sports. Please contact directly for more information on 024 7684 1720
  • Short Breaks  – many locations across Coventry – Led by the Children’s Disablity Team, they offer after school and holiday activities designed specifically for children with difficulties. All the classes and locations are detailed in their leaflet available at from the following web page .
